good passover to you. i am paging through old journals and folders looking for things i might share in this new space. the below is a piece from the fall of 2017. marginalia showed loving edits by the great poet karen cooper. it touches in me passover themes of oppression and liberation. what am i still ashamed of? what would it feel like to be liberated?
spin the top
again,
though
this is no dreidel
hewn from zeyde’s smooth dowel.
this is the one they gave you.
oblong,
devil weighted you say,
abandoned
where the edges should be.
study it again, just so
and...go!
until the collapse
that keeps growing longer.
or listen this time
until you can throw
all that great oak sang
as she laid herself low.
